Burning Permits are issued through the Town Clerk’s Office

COMMERCIAL BURNING PERMITTED
Conditions:
- Where
local ordinances restrict open fires, the permit holder shall also obtain
permission from local fire department or other local authority having
jurisdiction.
- Tire,
fuel oil or similar materials which cause visible emissions shall not be
used to ignite or sustain an open fire.
- Tree
trunks, stumps and roots shall not be burned.
- A
restricted open fire is allowed only when the prevailing winds are away
from populated areas. Fires shall
not be started during heavy winds.
- The
permit holder shall not conduct open burning during any stage of an air
pollution episode or when a period of high fire danger is announced by the
State Commissioner of Environmental Conservation.
- The
permit holder shall notify the Sheriff’s Department (225-4860) prior to burning and shall
show this permit to any person who requests to see it.
- Materials
to be ignited shall be isolated to prevent spreading and sufficient help
must be present at all time to control fires.
- No fire
shall be unattended at any time or left unattended until entirely
extinguished.
- The
permit holder shall be liable for damage to trees or other property
resulting from fires ignited by him.
- Should
it become necessary to extinguish any fire, the permit holder shall pay
the entire cost of suppression.
- This
permit is non-transferable and may be suspended if the permit holder fails
to comply with permit conditions.
- Restricted
burning shall not cause contravention of any applicable ambient air
quality standard or cause air pollution.
- This
permit is valid only where the permit holder owns the site of open fire or
where he has secured permission from the site owner. This permit authorizes no trespass on
private property.
- This
permit must be at the burning site when burning is being conducted.
